The BTR-50PKM service life extension program is developed specifically for the BTR50-PK APC and vehicles with similar chassis (PT-76, BTR-50PU) to enhance their mobility, ergonomics and repairability, providing for the use of the upgraded vehicles jointly with the last-generation combat vehicles.
The BTR-50PKM advanced mobility is achieved through the installation of an uppowered diesel engine and transmission combined into a single powerpack unit. This provides for the max speed increase from 45 to 60km/h and the fuel range increase from 400 to 450 km.
Due to the adopted layout design solutions, the upgraded vehicle retains the original weight and center of gravity while preserving its yet unmatched amphibious capabilities.
Weight, t | 14,5 |
Crew, men | 2 + 20 |
Power-to-weight ratio, hp/t | 20,7 |
Specific ground pressure, kg/cm² | 0,51 |
Obstacle capabilities: | |
gradient, deg | 38 |
side slope, deg | 18 |
trench, m | 2,8 |
wall, m | 1,1 |
Water entry / exit angle, deg | 30 / 20 |
Max road speed, km/h | 60 |
Average speed over earth road, km/h | 45 |
Backward speed, km/h | 8 |
Max water speed, km/h | 12 |
Fuel range, km | 400 - 450 |
Enhanced ergonomics are attained by introduction of a power-assisted T-bar steering column and reduced efforts in the vehicle controls due to the introduction of transmission hydraulic power amplifiers.
Improved repairability has been made possible due to the capability of replacing power-pack unit as well as implementation of quick-to-disconnect couplings in the supply systems.
